Higher Secondary School – Shiriya is situated
at the uphill of Shiriya village. Our school
enjoys a favorable geographic surroundings for calm and quiet learning. This
institution was established during the pre independence period i.e.1925.Thus it
is one of the oldest and most renowned educational institution which fulfilled
the aspirations of common masses. Once, it was having strength of more than two
thousand students. But now schools are opened at every nooks and corners.
Establishment of private schools increased considerably. This resulted gradual
decrease in the enrollment of students in this school.
Now
our students’ strength is considerably very low. We have both Kannada and
Malayalam parallel divisions from 1st standard to 10th
standard and a single batch of higher secondary in commerce group.
Our
school was following Muslim Calendar from the first day of it’s establishment
and we changed the school calendar to General Calendar effective from 15/02/2013. A noteworthy feature of our school is that almost
all children belongs to socially and economically backward communities like Muslims,
scheduled caste and fisherman communities .Hence the economic back ground of
the students are miserable. Thus our children require most special need and care.
As our School is situated at boarder, there are students from Karnataka also.
Thus our school is a miniature of different caste, colour, language, region and
religion.
Achievements
of our students are quite remarkable. Withstanding all difficulties and problems
we improved our SSLC result year after year, to the top level of 94% in the
SSLC Examination 2012-13. Our children participated in almost all literary and
other competitions conducted at various parts and showed their talents. In the
social service sector also we are pioneers. Social service activities are an
integral part of our institution. In our area road accidents are quite common
and our students are actively participated in several rescue operations.
Our
School Road Safety Club succeeded in creating a mass awareness among the public
about Traffic rules. Mass communication programs were conducted in several
topics for parents.
Study
tours and camps are conducted in every year. Our school made several attempts
to protect flock arts inviting local artist to present their programme.
Our
Eco club was succeeded in cultivating environment protection activities at a
base level. With the help of parents, teachers and other social institutions we
succeeded to make remarkable progress through the years.
Our physical background at present:
There
are 13 building blocks in school. Out of
these seven are concrete roofed and the rest are tile roofed. In these blocks two are unfit. Computer lab, lab and library, office room
and staff room are arranged in class rooms.
Tile roofed blocks are very old and dilapidated. Most of the classrooms are not plastered,
well floored and not been separated by walls. Three blocks are not electrified.
The roll strength in the present academic year from 9th standard to
12th standard is 236. We have
no reading room. Both library and
science laboratory is arranged in a single class room. Science equipments are kept in the same
room. There are no enough places for
conducting science activities and experiments.
We have only 200 sets of class room furniture which are not sufficient
for our need. Our play ground area is 2
acres but it is very hard due to spread up red stones. As the ground is not leveled, children feel
difficulties to play and performing athletic activities.
Comparing
the last many years, present academic year is colourful and advanced. In the present academic year we formed a
platform named A I M 2013-14 (Acceleration, Inspiration, Motivation) focusing
the total improvement and development of the children and to bring all the
curricular and co curricular activities under a single banner. The AIM 2013-14
is launched by the District Panchayath President and its first career guidance
class was taken by Dr. Abdul Sathar, well known educational activist and
Psychologist. The hard working and
dedicated staff members along with the co-operation of PTA try their level best
to bring the school to its zenith and hopefully will reach in a very near
future. In the history of our school,
this year was very much memorable for us that we conducted the venue for the
Sub-District level Vidyarangam Kala Sahithylsavam in our school.
